Joe Mortelliti's life long love, from when he was first given a Brownie camera as a boy, was photography. It was the focus of his work life for many years. He loved to travel with his wife Marion to as many parts of Australia as he could. He had the ability to 'see' the beauty of our land in such a way that he could photograph it for the delight of others. These photos are a legacy that he has left us. Used by permission and with appreciation.

A flood rescue at Newstead, Victoria, Australia. Australia is a land of droughts and flooding rains, as the song by Dorothea McKellar goes. Sometime people get caught out, as this photo of a vehicle with caravan in a fairly difficult situation. Such situations can quickly become serious and sometimes fatal, so a quick rescue before the floodwaters rise is essential.

Windmill in a field of golden canola, near Carisbrook, Victoria, Australia The brilliance of the yellow canola provides a brilliant counterpoint to the rustic windmill and the stormclouds and rain. A complete contrast to the previous pic.

Steam face shovel, at Lake Goldsmith Steam Preservation Association, Victoria, Australia To witness this 90 odd tonne Steam Driven Face Shovel work is just amazing. A hiss, clunk, chatter, groan, and it does really come alive as the operator puts it through its paces with the fire attendant keeping the fires stoked and the oilers lubricating the moving parts.
